It all sounds like the plot to a particularly cheesy romantic comedy. A couple sits down for dinner and the message inside a fortune cookie at the end of the night sets into motion all of the plans that until then had just been simmering in the back of their minds. Of course in that kind of movie, the couple would realize they were in love and, after several obstacles and the inevitable chase-to-the-airport scene, they'd end up together. In our case, the end result of the dinner was a chase scene into our office to really start setting some of our biggest plans into motion. (What can I say, we're already married...not so much with the running to the airport for us. Unless we're late for a flight, which if you know Rob pretty well, you know would never happen.)

It was a typical dinner for us, Rob was talking excitedly about a bunch of ideas and I was skeptically wondering how it would be possible to accomplish them all. That's our usual dynamic - Rob always wants to jump in to a new idea and go at it full speed and I want to mull it over, check for all the potential speed-bumps and then proceed, slowly. So I guess the fortune cookie wisdom was somehow meant for me. It was a simple statement, "Some people never have anything except ideas. Go do it." I read it aloud to Rob and, to his credit, he only gloated for half a minute. Then he seized the opportunity in front of him and finally got me on board to several of those big ideas.

And although it pains me deeply to admit this, he was right. Since that dinner in January, we have accomplished several of the things that had been nothing but an idea until this point. We brought on Susan as our full-time associate, completed our very first workshop, announced a second one, and today, we complete yet another one of those ideas with the launch of our new custom website. It had been something we'd been itching to do since the launch of our blog back in March 2009. And as soon as we made a list of the things we really wanted to tackle this year, this was on the top.

It wasn't even a discussion about who we would call to build the site for us. It had to be Dave and Brock from Infinet Design. They had blown us away last year when they had somehow managed to climb inside our heads and create a blog that was completely "us" without us even knowing how to fully describe to them what we wanted. And to do it all over again with the website? Unbelievable. When we saw the preview of the front page, the two of us were like little kids that just saw a brand new bike for the first time. Our jaws dropped, literally. It was perfect.

And a few weeks after that initial preview, we realized just how perfect it was. We got an e-mail from our friend Robin Dini with a link to an Etsy product that she thought was very "us." I clicked on it and ran into across the house with my laptop in hand to show it to Rob. It was a suitcase that had been turned into an end table. Adorable in it's own right, but almost freakishly perfect for our studio make over because it was nearly identical to the suitcase that is the major design feature of our new site. So of course we had to get it. And we both new that the site was obviously on the right track if Robin could see that the suitcase was very "us." Because that's exactly what we wanted the new website to be, a reflection of us. We felt very strongly that the best way to showcase our photography would be in a website that was an introduction not only to our work but to who we are as a couple. Before, it was just an idea - now it's a reality.

It's been a crazy year so far, and it's only June! But it's been the most fulfilling six months we have ever had because we're working together to finally accomplish all those things we had been dreaming about for years. So take a lesson from us, don't just have ideas. Go do it.

So, now that you have listened to me babble about what the site is like, click below to go see it for yourself. Be sure to check out all of the pages and spend some time looking at our new galleries! Thank you to all of our wonderful couples for inviting us into your lives and giving us so many beautiful moments to photograph. Thank you also to all of our loyal blog readers and fellow photographers for all of your support. And a BIG thanks to Dave and Brock for creating such an amazing site!

NEWS

Most people probably just know Robert & Kathleen Photographers as just the two of us. But for the last six years there has been another person who has been right by our side: Susan Magnano. Sue started out as Rob's steady second shooter and then became our third shooter when Kathleen officially came on board full-time. We have loved having her with us at weddings - not only does she take incredible photos but she's just plain fun to be around (any of you that have had Susan at your own weddings can certainly attest to that). Even more, she has been an invaluable source of friendship and inspiration to us, encouraging us every step along the way and being one of our biggest cheerleaders.

In that last year or so, we have been very fortunate in that our hard work has been paying off in a big way. We are generating more and more interest our photography for weddings. One of the hardest things for us is getting an amazing request from an excited couple only to realize that we are booked already for their date. As the interest has grown we have decided that the best solution would be to place those interested couples into the hands of someone that has been by our side, someone that knows and understands our approach to weddings, and someone that has her own personality and style that we know our couples would love. We didn't have too look very far to find that perfect person, we knew who it would be all along. Susan has shot countless weddings with us starting back in 2004, she knows the ins-and-outs of how we approach a wedding day just as well as we do and we have been blown away by her work time and time again.

So it's with tremendous joy that we announce that Susan will now be booking weddings for 2010. She'll have her own custom packages, which include a second shooter at your wedding, and can include an engagement session, wedding album, guest book, etc. She will be available for weddings in Connecticut, the Northeast and any destination you may have in mind. There will be blog posts directly from Susan, she'll even have her own stamp coming soon! You'll get to meet her couples, see the weddings she photographs and possibly even see the places she goes (like us, Sue loves to travel and she takes the most incredible landscape photographs). To secure Susan for your wedding date, contact us right away! She's already booking up fast!

To give you an idea of Susan’s talent and style, below are some of our favorite photos from just a few of the weddings she shot with us in 2009.

NEWS

We just wanted to put together a little post to share with you all of the things we have been up to. This week has certainly been one of the busiest weeks in quite a long time (not that we are complaining). Last weekend we shared in two really wonderful wedding days. On Friday we kicked of our weekend by spending the day with Kristina & Rob's wedding day which took place in Trumbull at the First Congregational Church followed by their reception at The Waterview in Monroe. On Saturday we headed over to the Country Club of Darien for Meredith & Craig's Wedding.

After the two amazing weddings last weekend we had the great pleasure of traveling up to Boston on Tuesday and Wednesday for three engagement sessions. Our Boston couples really showed us around the city and we saw more of Boston then we ever have before. Our first session of the three was with Kristin & Mark. We photographed their session beginning in the Cambridge section of Boston before heading over to Beacon Hill. On Wednesday morning we met up with Ashley & Mick (and their 2 year old golden retriever Dempsey) in South Boston. Finally to we finished up our epic string of engagement sessions on Wednesday afternoon by meeting up with Carrie & Liam at The Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University.

We are going to share all of these weddings and engagements with you shortly but first we have to get ready for another two weddings this weekend. Be sure to check back next week! In the meantime we thought we would share one photo from each wedding and engagement session from this week. We hope you are all staying dry in this incredibly wet day and hope you enjoy these previews!
