She's a classic beauty with the kind of grace and presence you'd find in an old Hollywood movie. She's probably wakes up in the morning with perfect hair and a flawless face. Plus, she's smart, funny and incredibly sweet. At first you'd think she's too good to be true, until you talked to her. Then you'd discover that you'd be hard pressed to find a truer person.
Tall, dark and handsome - he's the classic gentleman. He's the kind of guy that always opens doors, carries the groceries and wouldn't hesitate to help a person in need. A military man, he is strong and smart and willing to tough it out in even the worst of circumstances. Yet, when he's with the woman he loves, he is incredibly gentle - always reaching out to hold her hand and caressing her face as he give her a soft kiss.
Together, they are like Hepburn & Tracy, Bogart & Becall, Kate & Leo - a classic couple with undeniable chemistry and natural star power. They always have you captivated, whether they're telling a story, tearing up the dance floor or just sitting together making one another smile. And just like a classic romantic comedy, they make you laugh, keep you smiling, and, most of all, reassure you that love really can conquer all.
DAGNEY & MICHAEL
Dagney and Michael wanted a wedding that really reflected their personality and lifestyle. They both LOVE flying - a lot. Since she was raised in a military family (her father was in the Navy), and he is a Major in the Army, they decided to have a 1940s-style, aviation themed wedding.
They started the day with a beautiful and emotional ceremony at Calvary Evangelical Church in Trumbull. As they exited the church they were greeted with a sabre arch done by Michael's Army buddies. As they reached the end of the arch, two of the guys dropped down their sabres and wouldn't let the bride and groom pass unless they kissed. Michael was happy to oblige, throughout the day he wouldn't miss a chance to kiss his beautiful bride (his face lit up every time he heard the glasses clink at the reception).
With the help of Candice from Jubilee Events , they had everything they needed at the reception to really capture the style they were going for - a swing band, a black & white checked dance floor, even a vintage 1930s plane. All of which looked right at home in their location, an airport hanger at Oxford Airport. The room looked perfect – almost feeling like a WWII USO function – complete with many gentleman in uniform (many of the guests were fellow servicemen), which was even more appropriate being that Saturday was Armed Forces Day.
When Dagney & Michael took to the floor for their first dance, the look was really complete. They they were - a classic couple in a setting so perfect it seemed like the creation of a Hollywood producer. After hours of dinner and dancing, Michael escorted his new wife out to her father’s vintage porsche (opening the door for her, naturally) and they rode off into the night together, it was a better ending than any movie you could find – because this was really a beginning, the start of their amazing life as a married couple. |
We thought it would be really fun to start Dagney & Michael's Wedding post with one of our favorite images from the day. Since we knew we would be spending the majority of Dagney & Michael's Wedding Day at an airport, we thought it would be a great idea to bring our vintage luggage. Thank you to Sue for the suggestion!! I absolutely love how Dagney grabbed Michael's hat while he gave her a kiss. It feels so vintage! If you love this one, make sure you scroll down, there are MANY more where this came from and be on the lookout for a super cool 1936 C-45.
Ok so now back to tell the beginning of the day. We started at Dagney's parent's house in Stratford where we captured a few details while Dagney and her girls were getting ready. The mirror in the bedroom provided such a great unique opportunity for a photo of her dress.
Once Dagney was in her dress, we took advantage of one of our favorite things, window light for a quick bridal.
Before heading to the church for their ceremony, we took a ring shot on their piano.
There ceremony was held at Calvary Free Church in Trumbull. It was a very unique ceremony filled with a lot of music and emotion. This is Dagney being walked down the aisle with her dad who was in his military dress uniform. We love the look and feel of a military wedding!
One of the reasons that their ceremony was unique was because of the processional. Dagney walked down first with her Dad and waited for Michael at the end of the aisle as he walked down to her.
Here is Michael (also in his military dress uniform) walking down to meet his soon-to-be wife.
This church was really simple and beautiful filled with a ton of natural light...
...and it had a balcony which was the perfect place to capture some photos from above.
Kathleen captured this photo of Dagney wiping away a tear, it was such a sweet and emotional ceremony.
It was really cool to see all of the people in uniform present at their wedding.
Dagney & Michael's first kiss as husband and wife!
I love this photo that Kathleen captured. This is Dagney's Mom, Dad & brother showing their excitement during Dagney & Michael's first kiss!
They were nothing but smiles as they walked out of the church.
I am not sure exactly why I love this photo, I really just like seeing everyone outside of the church waiting for Dagney & Michael to walk out.
Dagney & Michael walked out of the church and through a Saber Arch before heading to their Towncar. Their excitement was so contagious!
We headed right to Oxford Airport after their ceremony and right out to the field. It was SO AMAZING to be able to photograph Dagney and Michael around so many amazing aircraft.
They were so into each other, I don't even think they noticed us photographing them.
Our vintage luggage really added to the feel of this photo.
Kathleen's favorite from this set is the full-length photo on the left, mine is actually the one on the bottom right, I really like the look on Dagney's face as Michael gives her a kiss on her cheek.
Kathleen captured this one and um...yeah, I LOVE IT!!
It started to lightly rain out but that did not phase Dagney or Michael. We just pulled out the umbrella and continued shooting as nothing had changed.
When we got into the hangar where their reception was to be held, the center-piece was this incredible beautiful 1936 C-45. Let me tell you that I was absolutely speechless when I saw this plane. It was amazingly beautiful.
Michael and Dagney could not wait to be photographed around it and we couldn't wait to photograph them. We LOVE this portrait of Dagney!!
This photo may be one of my all time favorite images. I love the look on their face, the plane, the uniform... it is so magical to me!
Kathleen absolutely loves this image! :)
When I saw this photo that Kathleen captured, I almost lost my mind. The reflection and composition is AMAZING!! We really loved this plane!!
Dagney & Michael actually asked us to go outside again and take even more photos around the planes and of course we were more than excited to do so.
We were going for a 1940s feel with this photo. Dagney's veil was incredibly beautiful and the thing that was so cool about it was that it was her mom's veil from her wedding day. Little touches like that really added to their day!
This plane provided the perfect backdrop for one more photo outside before heading in for their reception.
Candice and her team from Jubilee Events really did an incredible job with the details throughout the entire hangar. It was so cool to be their surrounded by 7 planes throughout the room.
Their cake was really nice, I love the one on the right. How often do you see a jet plane behind a wedding cake!!
Dagney and Michael danced their first dance to "At Last". The black and white dance floor combined with a swing band really added to the old fashion feel of their wedding.
At the end of their dance Michael dipped Dagney. It was such a sweet moment!!
Naturally they cut their cake with a saber.
The parent dances were also very sweet!!
During the last dance of the evening, Dagney and Michael held each other so incredibly close.
At the end of their reception, they were supposed to fly off but the weather had something else in mind. It was not a problem though because Dagney's dad had his vintage Porsche waiting for them just in case. Everyone ran out and blew bubbles while cheering for Dagney & Michael. It was GREAT moment filled with so much excitement and emotion!! After Michael walked Dagney to the front seat, he came around to the driver's side and joined in the excitement before heading out. So awesome!!
Dagney & Michael, we hope you have an INCREDIBLE time on your honeymoon. We can't wait to see you both when you get back. Thank you again for letting us be a part of your amazing day!! ~Rob & Kathleen~ |
